Students asked to adopt Gandhian values to help needy

Students should adopt Gandhian values and help the needy and downtrodden people in rural areas through their outreach programmes. They should disseminate all information among rural masses to enlighten them, said Collector T.N. Hariharan.Addressing the annual day function of Lakshmi College of Education at Gandhigram near here on Friday evening, he said that rural students should be assisted to develop their talents and skills on par with urban students. The young graduate teachers of this institution should work towards that goal. Gandhiji wanted the villages to be the focal point for all developments. Focussing on villages will ultimately improve rural economy, he added.The Collector also appreciated the uniqueness of the college that maintained Gandhian principles and used khadi products. Later, the students also took an oath stating that they would dedicate themselves wholly and truly to educational services and develop themselves as talented teachers. They also took a pledge to focus towards socially and economically backward people in villages, work for their upliftment and cherish Gandhian ideals and values.
