Students
should adopt Gandhian values and help the needy and downtrodden people
in rural areas through their outreach programmes. They should
disseminate all information among rural masses to enlighten them, said
Collector T.N. Hariharan.Addressing the annual day
function of Lakshmi College of Education at Gandhigram near here on
Friday evening, he said that rural students should be assisted to
develop their talents and skills on par with urban students. The young
graduate teachers of this institution should work towards that goal.
Gandhiji wanted the villages to be the focal point for all developments.
Focussing on villages will ultimately improve rural economy, he added. The
Collector also appreciated the uniqueness of the college that
maintained Gandhian principles and used khadi products. Later, the
students also took an oath stating that they would dedicate themselves
wholly and truly to educational services and develop themselves as
talented teachers. They also took a pledge to focus towards socially and
economically backward people in villages, work for their upliftment and
cherish Gandhian ideals and values.
